EXCLUSIVE: Sonali Bendre talks about being ‘outsider’ in showbiz; says, ‘It kept me grounded’

Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre continues to remain an inspiration for many after her long cancer battle. The actress, who enjoyed a busy career in the 1990s, marked new innings by with her debut in the ZEE5 original series, The Broken News. While talking about the same exclusively with Bollywood Hungama, Sonali talked about her background, choices, and illness.

When asked how coming from an army background helped her, Bendre quickly responded by saying, “because he (Sonali’s father) would get transferred every two years, I was in a new school. So I was meeting new people, new students and you know you’re always an outsider and so even in the movies when I was an outsider I never really felt like that because I was so used to being an outsider”.

As the Hum Saath Saath Hain actor continued, she added, “I found my way around. It just helped me adapt more. So, it was easier for me to adapt to new situations, and I think it also kept me grounded because I didn’t get so carried away with what was happening to me”. As she mentioned books, she was asked to share her favourite genre. However, without naming a particular genre, the actress said, “I like all kinds of books, [it] depends on what my mood is at that time”.

Talking about her latest venture, The Broken News, it is an eight-episode series also starring Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal characters. Sonali can be seen essaying the character of a news anchor in it.
