It’s been a year of ups and downs when it came to films in cinemas. However, the South film industry excelled and how. SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster RRR was not only seeing immense love in the country but the validation from the West was definitely a sight to behold. So, when the Film Federation of India snubbed RRR for India’s official entry at Oscars 2023, it definitely led to a lot of discussions online, amongst critics, media and trade. But, as per the U.S. distributor, the team will be doing a full-fledged campaign for the action drama and is calling 10,000 Academy members for them to consider voting for the film in all categories.
As per a report by Variety, the multi-starrer will be submitted in various categories including Best Picture, Best Director (S.S. Rajamouli), Best Lead Actor for Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’, Original Screenplay (S.S. Rajamouli and V. Vijayendra Prasad). Supporting Actor and Actress for Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt, respectively; Original Score by M.M. Keeravaani. They will also submit for technical categories like cinematography, production design, film editing, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, sound and visual effects.

Rajamouli’s RRR has brought to global audiences,” President of Variance Films, Dylan Marchetti, told Variety. “We have seen the film gross over $140 million worldwide to become one of India’s highest grossing films of all time and become the first film in history to trend globally on Netflix for over 14 weeks. The film filled up theaters with cheering audiences months after its initial release, including the historic TCL Chinese IMAX theater in Hollywood, where it will play next Friday to an audience that sold out of one of the largest theaters in the country in just 15 minutes. Most importantly, we have heard fans from around the world tell us that they believe this is one of the best films of the year from any nation. We agree. We proudly invite the Academy to consider ‘RRR’ in all categories.”
Gujarati movie, Chhello Show (Last Film Show) was selected as the official entry and the announcement was made on Tuesday. The film is directed by Pan Nalin, and stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta in pivotal roles. The film has its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021. It has also won the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid International Film Festival in 2021.
RRR is a multi-starrer action drama, starring Jr. NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt, and is among the most acclaimed Indian films of the year.
